Sydenham, South East London

Project overview
This medically important remediation project in Sydenham, South East London, followed a leak that had affected the bathroom and allowed mould-contaminated building materials to develop.
Because the occupant experienced severe reactions to mould, the work was planned around strict containment, controlled removal and reducing the risk of cross-contamination to the rest of the home.

Our approach
A containment enclosure was set up around the affected bathroom area to isolate the work zone before removal works began.
The enclosure was placed under negative air pressure, helping manage airborne particles and protect occupied areas of the property during the remediation process.
What we did
Mould-contaminated building materials affected by the bathroom leak were safely removed from within the contained work area.
The project was carried out with careful sequencing so that disturbance, handling and movement of contaminated materials remained controlled throughout the works.
The focus was on physical removal rather than superficial treatment, aligning with Mould Matters’ evidence-led approach to dealing with mould at source.
The result
The bathroom remediation was completed under controlled conditions, with containment and negative pressure used to support safer removal for a mould-sensitive occupant.
The project reflects the importance of adapting mould remediation methods to the health needs of the occupant, especially where sensitivity to mould is severe.
