For occupants with health conditions that make mould exposure a genuine risk, standard remediation isn’t enough. MIR follows CIRSx principles to remove contamination without disturbing the rest of the property.

Ideal for

Households with occupants who have respiratory conditions, autoimmune conditions, or diagnosed mould sensitivity, where exposure during works has to be controlled as tightly as the mould itself.

Key benefits

CIRSx-trained team Full containment with HEPA filtration Verified return to normal fungal ecology

What this service includes

Medically Important Remediation is a heightened standard of mould removal, built around the fact that some occupants can’t simply vacate a property while work happens, and can’t tolerate airborne spores at any level considered “normal” for a healthy household. Every MIR project starts with a full containment enclosure, sealed and held under negative air pressure using HEPA filtration, so that nothing generated during the works can reach the rest of the property.

Contaminated materials are physically removed rather than treated with fungicide or sealants — spraying over mould doesn’t eliminate the health risk, it just hides it. Exposed structural timbers are then mechanically remediated to remove fungal growth from the surface, which is a more thorough process than chemical treatment alone and doesn’t introduce further airborne particulate during a stage where the occupant may already be present nearby.

Once the physical removal is complete, the containment area goes through a detailed small particle clean using HEPA-filtered equipment, followed by post-remediation verification: surface swab testing to confirm the space has genuinely returned to Condition 1, or Normal Fungal Ecology, under the IICRC S520 Standard. This isn’t a visual check — it’s a lab-backed confirmation that the environment is safe to re-occupy.

Our technicians hold CIRSx Medically Important Remediation training specifically for this kind of work, alongside IICRC Water Damage Restoration Technician and Applied Microbial Remediation Technician qualifications. If you’re arranging remediation for a vulnerable household — your own, a tenant’s, or a client’s — this is the service built for that level of risk.
